Earlier this month, an app release took place updating SHAZAM BOLT$ to be renamed Brella. Just like SHAZAM BOLT$, the new Brella app offers protection for First Citizens Debit Card holders with real-time alerts and blocks. Do you currently have the SHAZAM BOLT$ app? If so, read the scenario that applies to you:

If you are an iOS® user:
Your device should have automatically updated from SHAZAM BOLT$ to Brella. If your device has any special settings that restrict automatic updates, visit the App Store and update.

Android™ users:
You’ll need to download Brella as a new app. Visit the Google Play Store, search “Brella Card Manager” and download the Brella app to your device. Once you install Brella, you can delete the SHAZAM BOLT$ app.

Once the Brella app is installed on your device, the transition should be seamless. All SHAZAM BOLT$ usernames, passwords, registered cards and app functions will continue to work in Brella as they do today. Please note, you’ll be asked to review and accept an updated Terms of Use Agreement as part of the update.

The Brella app helps protect you from fraud by sending alerts when your card is used so you can quickly detect unauthorized activity. You choose which alerts to receive and when.

Alerts include:

  • Purchases exceeding thresholds you set.
  • Purchases made via the internet or over the phone.
  • Suspicious or high-risk purchases.


With Brella, you can also:

  • Turn your Debit Card off and on. This is great if you misplace your card!
  • Securely send money to virtually anyone.
  • Check your account balance without logging in with the Quick Balance feature.
  • Find nearby surcharge-free ATMs.
  • Log in with just your fingerprint.
  • Submit travel notices by using the "Manage Travel Notices" option.


All of these features are FREE and put you in control! Plus, you will know right away if fraudulent transactions have occurred so you can call immediately to stop the fraud.
