With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s easy to forget that the smallest of things can make the most significant impact on someone else. For instance, the simple act of cleaning snow off a vehicle next to yours could bring a smile to someone’s face and make their day better. There are unlimited options all around you to be a kind, compassionate, and helping person. No particular talent or measure of time and money is required to carry out little random acts of kindness. You need to look no further than your home, workplace, or community to find hundreds of small and simple random acts of kindness ideas.

Not sure of where to start or what to do?  Here are 7 ideas (one to try each day of the week!):

  1. Let someone go ahead of you in line at the grocery store, especially if they’re rushed.
  2. Donate warm clothes or blankets to a homeless shelter.
  3. Anonymously pay for a perfect strangers bill at a coffee shop or restaurant.
  4. Hold the door open for the person behind you.
  5. Leave a treat or gift card in the mailbox for your mail carrier. (Be sure to include a note that it’s for him/her so they don’t leave it in there!)
  6. Tape some change to a vending machine.
  7. Give a generous tip to your waitress or pizza delivery guy.

When we do good deeds without any expectations of reward, the powerful feeling of touching someone’s life and making a positive difference fills our hearts just as much as it fills theirs. Think about how you could totally transform someone’s day. Leave a comment about your favorite way to spread kindness or share your story if you’ve ever been the recipient of an awesome random act. We would love to hear from you!
